I was born in Dearborn, Michigan. I attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and earned a bachelor's degree in political science and philosophy. I attended the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and earned a Juris Doctor. I was admitted to the California Bar in 1991. I have lived on the Central Coast (most of it in the Santa Maria area) since 1991.
