2021 National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation

Throughout the month of April, Santa Maria Mayor Alice Patino joins other mayors across the United States by challenging residents to make a long-term commitment to managing water resources and take the pledge to conserve water. Visit http://www.cityofsantamaria.org/utilities or https://youtu.be/_8cNCfKf06M to watch Mayor Alice Patino encouraging Santa Maria residents to team with her in making the pledge.

To participate, visit www.mywaterpledge.com. Santa Maria residents who participate in this year’s challenge will receive free promotional items from the Utilities Department. To receive the promotion, residents should bring to the Utilities Department (2065 East Main Street, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays) a photo ID card and the email confirmation from www.mywaterpledge.com.

This challenge is a friendly community-based competition that encourages residents to make series of water conservation pledges on behalf of their city.  Winning cities are those with the highest percentage of residents who participate in the challenge for their population category. Participants earn a chance to win more than $50,000 in eco-friendly prizes for themselves and others, including a new 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid for a non-profit organization in their town.

In the wake of the current pandemic, the campaign provides residents with more opportunities to get involved safely from home, including making water-friendly lifestyle changes on behalf of their city, undertaking home-based environmental projects that add up to cleaner and safer communities, and sharing tips and strategies with friends and neighbors.

This year marks the 10th National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation. This event is presented by the Wyland Foundation and Toyota, with support from the U.S. EPA WaterSense, The Toro Company, National League Cities, Conserva Irrigation, and Earth Friendly Products.
