City Closures due to Coronavirus Emergency

Effective immediately, to protect public health, the City of Santa Maria is closing all Recreation and Parks Department facilities and postponing all recreation programming through March. Signs are being posted today at each recreation facility, notifying the public of these closures. This includes programs at the Mussell Senior Center, Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, Paul Nelson Aquatic Center, and the after-school programs, among others.

Local City parks will remain open for individual use only (no group rentals or organized activities are permitted), and the public shall practice the mandated (6) foot social distancing guidelines as directed by the County’s Public Health Order.  Los Flores Ranch Park will also cancel all group programs and trail work activities, but remain open for individual hiking, mountain biking and equestrian use during regular hours Thursday to Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

All Santa Maria Public Library (main and four branch libraries) remain open, but all of their programming is cancelled through March. Signs are being posted informing patrons to do a six (6) foot distancing.

Santa Maria Area Transit (SMAT) services, including Dial-A-Ride, and the Breeze bus regional service, remain in normal service. Additional disinfecting of the bus fleet is taking place nightly, using disinfectant on all high-touch surfaces such as door handles, stanchions, seat back handles, grab bars, fare boxes, and driver areas. Portable toilets at the temporary Transit Center are outfitted with hand sanitizer dispensers.

The Santa Maria Open Streets event is now rescheduled from March 29th to October 25th by its organizer, the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments.

This decisions are the result of the Declaration of a Local Health Emergency by the County to slow the transmission of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Questions may be directed to the City Manager’s Office, (805) 925-0951 extension 2372.
