• Discovery Museum Response to COVID-19

Santa Maria, CA – March 14, 2020 – The health and safety of our guests, employees, and volunteers is the top priority for the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum. Therefore, the museum will be closed as of Saturday, March 14 and remain closed through March 30.

The staff and leadership of the museum has monitored the situation carefully over the last several weeks, taking into account information released by local and state health officials, and has decided that closing the museum is the safest course of action for our community and staff.

“Although this has not been an easy decision for us, we realize that it is important to do what we can to maintain the health and safety of our visitors, staff, and community,” stated Nancy Gastelum, Executive Director of the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum. “We will continue to monitor the situation and follow any guidelines set forth by health officials.”

During the closure we will maintain our exhibits and facilities to ensure that we are well prepared for our reopening. Staff has also begun reaching out to those visitors who have scheduled field trips and birthday parties to inform them of their options, including postponing their event or receiving a refund.

We appreciate the support our visitors and community have shown to the museum, and we look forward to reopening our doors as soon as possible.
