Distribution of 2020 Census Tote Bags

Thousands of tote bags promoting the 2020 Census in Santa Maria will be distributed by the City to selected partnering organizations on Thursday, February 6th.

“Be Counted in the 2020 Census. Your community is counting on you!” reads the message in English, and in Spanish. The reusable tote bags have handles, measure 15 by 13 inches, and have a removable bottom plastic insert.

“The objective is raising awareness of the 2020 Census, which happens on April 1st,” City Public Information Manager Mark van de Kamp said. “The census is a quick, nine-question survey that can be filled out online, by phone, or by mail. Be counted!”

The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County, Peoples’ Self-Help Housing, the Central Coast Literacy Council, Future Leaders of America, Pastores Coastal Central in Santa Maria, and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce are among the local nonprofit organizations to receive the bags for distribution.

Questions may be directed to Mark van de Kamp at (805) 925-0951 extension 2372.
