  • Five Cities to Rise & Rally Against Breast Cancer at Celebration March and Car Show

Hospital Foundation will honor survivors at family-friendly event and announce amount of funds raised for new, advanced mammography/biopsy technology

ARROYO GRANDE, CA – October 31, 2022 – As National Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Foundation will host the Rise & Rally Celebration March and Car Show. The event marks the end of a month-long effort to raise the funds needed to bring new, advanced mammography and biopsy technology to the Five Cities area.

WHO: Members of the media are invited to attend the Rise & Rally Celebration March and Car Show.

WHAT: People of all ages will gather together to Rise & Rally against breast cancer at a family-friendly community event featuring a celebration march, car show, food trucks, live music, and more!

WHERE: The event will take place in the parking lot of the Matthew Will Memorial Medical Center, 850 Fair Oaks Avenue, Arroyo Grande. The march will be around the Arroyo Grande Community Hospital campus.

WHEN: Sunday, November 6, 2022, from noon to 3 p.m.

WHY: Throughout October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Foundation partnered with community members to raise $650,000 to bring Hologic 3Dimensions Mammography and Biopsy technology to the Five Cities community and increase breast cancer survival rates for local residents.

“The new, 3D technology will help doctors in diagnosing patients by detecting cancers earlier, [cancers] that might be hidden in dense breast tissue. But also it will reduce the amount of callbacks that we have,” says Radiologist Ramanjyot Muhar, MD. “At some point in a woman's life, they will be called back for something that was seen on their mammogram. But if it’s a 3D mammogram with newer technology then we may be able to scroll through the breast tissue and realize that isn’t anything worrisome and prevent the patient from having to come back and prevent the anxiety that comes along with that entire process.”

“Arroyo Grande Community Foundation is incredibly grateful to our fundraising teams, sponsors, and donors for coming together to Rise & Rally against breast cancer. The money we raised is a vital step in bringing new, life-saving technology to the Five Cities area," said Montisa Lopez, AGCH Foundation Vice President of Philanthropy. “We especially want to recognize our matching donors—Henry Myers of Kontiki Inn and Pismo Beach Athletic Club and Noreen Martin of Martin Resorts—who matched each donation, dollar for dollar, up to $100,000. Once again, we are humbled by our donors’ generosity and willingness to go above and beyond for the health of their neighbors.”

The Martin Resorts collection includes the Shore Cliff, Avila Lighthouse, Pismo Lighthouse, Paso Robles Inn, and Piccolo Hotel.

At the Rise & Rally Celebration March and Car Show, members of the media will have the opportunity to interview Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Foundation physicians; Sandi Dewar, AGCH Foundation Board Chair; Montisa Lopez, AGCH Foundation Vice President of Philanthropy, and to speak with breast cancer survivors about the importance of the new technology.
