Hearst Cancer Resource Center a source of information and support at no cost

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – April 26, 2020 – French Hospital Medical Center’s Hearst Cancer Resource Center Director, Bev Kirkhart and her staff have taken extra measures to ensure local cancer patients feel supported and confident during the COVID-19 pandemic. When chemotherapy results in hair loss for local patients, Kirkhart delivers wigs from the resource center’s “Appearance Center” to help with confidence as patients move through treatment. This also eliminates any additional exposure for these at-risk patients traveling outside of the home.

“Cancer doesn’t stop because there is a pandemic,” says Kirkhart. “Our mission at the Hearst Cancer Resource Center is to care for our patients, and when we hear there is a need, we do what we can to fill it. If I can help someone feel better about themselves, especially now when they are not only dealing with a cancer diagnosis, but the fear of COVID-19, I am happy to do so.”

The Hearst Cancer Resource Center is a one-of-a-kind resource in San Luis Obispo County for those living with cancer and their families. The goal of the center is to help persons with cancer learn about the disease, recognize opportunity for improved health, build a personal support system, and gain a sense of extended family. We are dedicated to serving cancer patients and their families: ranging from those newly diagnosed with cancer, in treatment, in recovery, and beyond.

The “Appearance Center” within the Hearst Cancer Resource Center offers products and accessories to cancer patients undergoing treatment to build confidence and support their journey, including wigs, head coverings, and skin products.
