  • Music at the Library Duo Piano: Sarah & Avah Girges

    SANTA MARIA, CA – July 19, 2022 - The Santa Maria Philharmonic will present the fourth concert of the ‘Music at the Library’ series, with a performance by Sarah & Avah Girges, on Sunday, July 31, 2022 @ 3:00 pm at Shepard Hall in the Santa Maria Public Library.

    Piano Duo Sarah and Avah Girges, are the first place winners of the 2022 national MTNA Piano Duet competition. They have been performing as a duo for a little over 3 years and like to call themselves Soli Deo Gloria. Sisters Sarah and Avah, ages 17 and 14, began playing duets for fun as a change of pace from their rigorous solo repertoire. It became obvious from the start that this sister duo had a wonderful chemistry together and it soon turned into a passion. After playing for only 6 months together they entered the national MTNA Piano Duet competition and won 2nd place at t he national level. They have placed first in numerous competitions as a duet team such as the Chicago International Music Competition and the Kings Peak 
    CCMTA (Central Coast Music Teachers Association) is the local chapter of the state and national organizations: CAPMT - California Association of Professional Music Teachers Association, and MTNA - Music Teachers National Association. 

    They have placed first in numerous competitions as a duet team, the Chicago International Music Competition and the Kings Peak International Music Competition just to name a few. They have been invited to perform for Spokane public radio and the Bachfest Northwest. They began excelling at piano after studying with Dr. Lynne Garrett. Other notable teachers have been Hans Boepple and Barbara Miller. They are currently studying piano with Dr. Oksana Ejokina of Tacoma, WA.
