New Hours for Santa Maria Public Library Include Sunday

Thanks to Measure U funding, the City of Santa Maria Public Library will open on Sundays starting January 5th, 2020.  The new Sunday hours will be from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Also, on Monday through Thursday, the Library will open and close one hour earlier.

At 1:30 p.m. on the first Sunday open, January 5th, K-Pop, a Pioneer Valley High School dance club, will perform in Shepard Hall.  Righetti High School’s Ballet Folklorico dance club will perform at 2:00 p.m. Cookies provided by the Santa Maria Public Library Foundation will be served.

In addition to the new Sunday hours, the Library’s regular Monday through Thursday hours will change to open one hour earlier at 9:00 a.m. instead of 10:00 a.m., and to close one hour earlier at 7:00 p.m. instead of 8:00 p.m.  Friday and Saturday hours will remain unchanged at 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The change in hours was determined using current visitor data and a customer feedback survey.

In the November 2018 election, Santa Maria voters extended and enhanced the Measure U general purpose sales tax to a one-cent rate. This is to maintain and enhance City services such as public safety, youth services, and quality of life.

The Santa Maria Public Library has an average of 1,000 visitors each day open, and circulates an average of 31,000 items monthly.  In addition to checking out a wide variety of materials, visitors can use the Library computers and databases, the onsite WiFi, fax and copier machines, read a wide variety of magazines and newspapers, and enjoy a variety of art displays and special exhibits.

Questions may be directed to the Library’s administration office, (805) 925-0994 extension 2321.
