• OASIS seeks your support to help our local senior citizens

March 20, 2020, Santa Maria, CA – The aging population is the most at risk group, and OASIS asks for your help to ensure every senior citizen in our community is accounted for and has somebody looking for them. Please call or get a message out to friends and neighbors to make sure they are okay. If they need assistance, there are a variety of resources available to them. Nobody should be left alone or forgotten, even during mandatory social distancing. In addition, the OASIS is need of your financial support.

If you would like the latest information on what types of resources are available, please refer to the National Council on Aging website’s COVID-19 information page https://www.ncoa.org/covid-19-resources-for-older-adults/.

We are all in this together as a community, and nothing tells you more about a community than how they care for their senior citizens.

The Luis OASIS Senior Center in Old Orcutt, has  been a place for the aging population to come recreate, socialize, and get resources delivered. These resources include computer training, hot meals, and grief support, among others.

The COVID-19 outbreak has affected us greatly, as our annual fundraiser to support our program has been postponed and the OASIS needs your help more than ever.  Our senior members are now being isolated at their homes. We exist, in part, to combat the dangers of isolation, so it makes this particular crisis much more difficult for us to accomplish.

At around 1,400 active members, the OASIS staff has spent long days making calls to check in on each of them and to remind them they are not forgotten or alone. We have been sharing available resources, as well as finding ways to get food and other commodities to them while they isolate from the outside world. Please reach out to (safely) any senior citizens you know that might be isolated or in need. There are resources for them.

We hope you’ll join OASIS and show the world that the Santa Maria Valley has our most vulnerable population foremost in their hearts and efforts as we battle the coronavirus together.
