• Santa Maria Philharmonic Society: A Word From Our Executive Director

It’s been a year since I became the Executive Director of the SMPS.  I have met many wonderful people and experienced some exciting musical events, including the summer Pops! On the Lawn, the Fly Me to the Moon Free Family concert, and of course our season concerts in fall and winter.  We planned a very ambitious season and year and it was shaping up to be one of the most successful in SMPS history.

In April, the pandemic forced us to postpone our final season concert and rethink original plans for some summer concert events.  We are moving forward, adapting and reshaping ways we provide music to the community in these challenging times.  We were able to record a live outdoor concert of our Brass Quintet in celebration of July 4th at the Gazebo in Rotary Centennial Park,  in collaboration with the City of Santa Maria.  There was no audience, save a few people passing by in the park and those of us who were there to help with production - properly masked and distanced of course  - but you can hear us clapping and cheering on the video.  It was truly a joy to be able to hear the Phil play live again, and we’re looking forward to more of these recordings from our musicians over the next few months.

Now, more than ever, your membership and donation support is vital to the success of the SMPS.  You have been so generous in the past; we hope you will continue to show your belief  in this organization through your generosity now and in the future, to help the Phil play on.  You may make donations and set up your membership online here.

Thank you in advance for your continued support and generosity.  The SMPS has weathered hard times before - we are resilient, and with the help of Friends like you, we will weather this as well.   I look forward to seeing you at our concerts when we are able to Listen-Local-LIVE together again.

Best regards and stay safe -

    Fran Saveriano
