Solvang, Santa Ynez Valley, California — More than 250 guests attended the annual Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital (SYVCH) Holiday Gala on December 7, 2019, at the Santa Ynez Valley Marriott Hotel in Buellton and raised over $21,000 in support of the hospital.

Gerry Shepherd, former president of the SYVCH Foundation announced, “This year’s Gala is supporting the Tele-Stroke Program. Using state-of-the-art telemedicine technology in the emergency department, stroke patients can now get faster and improved care. Tele-Stroke medicine immediately connects patients and emergency department physicians with board-certified neurologists through two-way audio-visual technology. This protocol includes the ability to administer tPA - the clot dissolving medication - when indicated. This program is providing critical care sooner, thus saving lives and ensuring the best possible outcomes.”

“We are celebrating Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital’s 55th year in our community. The hospital opened its doors on November 9, 1964 with funding coming from a grass roots community effort spearheaded by a concerned group of 68 women, who ultimately formed the Hospital Auxiliary Charter Members 57 years ago in 1962,” said
C.J. Jackson, SYVCH Foundation President. “They, along with 1,225, donors contributed a total of $352,391 to make the Solvang hospital a reality. Congratulations to our hospital on its many successes over these 55 years!”

Wende Cappetta, SYVCH Vice President commented at the event, “I would like to share a special thank you to our Hospital Auxiliary for all you do. Your dedication of more than 15,000 volunteer hours a year supports our patients and you are valued by our staff. Not only do we celebrate 57 years of the founding of the hospital’s Auxiliary tonight; it’s a testament to this community to have so many attending the Gala including donors, employees and Auxiliary members to celebrate with a silent auction, dinner and dancing. Philanthropic support is key to our hospital’s success.”

The SYVCH Holiday Gala was coordinated by SYVCH Foundation’s Gala Committee led by Foundation Administrator June Martin, and Foundation Assistant Becky Christenson, Hospital Senior Administrative Assistant Martine Surey, Kay Alves, Lana Clark Schutz, Phyllis Cunningham, Judith Dale, Kate Firestone, Gerry Shepherd, Tresha Sell and Robin Sonner. Support for the Gala featured generous sponsors including the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians, Community West Bank, Lana Clark and Associates, Montecito Bank and Trust, and Envision Physician Services. Wines served were donated by Bradley Family Winery, Falcone Vineyards, El Rancho Market, Hitching Post, Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards, Sanger Family of Wines and Westerly Wines.

SYVCH Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, whose mission is to develop, manage and channel the community’s financial support on behalf of SYVCH, thereby serving not only to protect, but also enhance the hospital as a valuable community asset.
