• Chamber Partners with Santa Maria Times on Shop Local Santa Maria: Join us in a Month Supporting Locally Owned Business

The Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce is excited to partner with the Santa Maria Times on Shop Local Santa Maria -- A Month Supporting Locally Owned Business. The promotion kicks off with a telethon on Saturday, April 3rd followed by a promotion of participating local businesses throughout the month of April. Community members will be encouraged to purchase gift cards to local businesses to help support our businesses at a time when they need it most!

Businesses who are interested in participating will pay a $125 fee, 100% of which is guaranteed to be returned in sales of gift cards for the business. Businesses can also choose to receive additional promotion through higher-level packages available.

This is a great opportunity for our local businesses to get some much-needed support, and for our local community to show their support for their favorite local businesses, and learn about some new businesses to support, too!

If you are interested in participating, contact the Santa Maria Times:

    Here is how it works
    • We build a month and a kickoff virtual telethon around the idea of supporting locally owned businesses (with local entertainers and speakers of all kinds).
    • Locally owned businesses join the effort and help us promote it
    • Patrons who want to support one or more local businesses will contribute money over the course of the month and during the kickoff telethon (they are watching both for the entertainment and to support the cause); in return, they can choose one or more gift cards from participating businesses; they will receive cards representing 100% of the value they give, and 100% of the money will go to the restaurants/businesses providing the cards. For all practical purposes, it will be exactly the same effect as if someone walked into a business and bought a gift card, getting full value.
    What, exactly, happens?
    • Locally owned businesses choose to participate.
    • We announce and promote the month and the kickoff telethon using social media and traditional media
    • Participating businesses promote with their social networks and in whatever other ways make sense for them.
    • We hold the kickoff telethon Saturday, April 3rd, 9AM-5PM, pushing people to support our locally owned businesses and getting gift cards in return, just as though they had gone to the locations and purchased the cards, with 100% going back to the businesses. The telethon will be broadcast on YouTube, Facebook, and other platforms. Then we will continue to promote over the course of the month of April.
    • The Monday following the month of Shop Local Santa Maria (May 3), each business will be given their money (100%) and a list of people to send gift cards, with the appropriate amounts and contact information.
Why should businesses want to participate?
    • Businesses will receive 100% of the money paid for their gift cards.
    • They will be supporting their fellow business owners and shopping local, overall.
    • They will get marketing for their business throughout the month of April and the kickoff telethon as well as in the preceding weeks.
    • There is no way to lose because all participating businesses will receive at least the amount of their participation fee back.
