Soaring to New Heights: Central Coast AirFest Takes Flight for Second Year in Santa Maria
After taking flight for its inaugural year, the Central Coast AirFest is soaring back to the Central Coast to provide excitement and entertainment the whole family can enjoy.
“AirFest was extremely successful for the inaugural event,” explained Chris Kunkle, who spearheaded the effort to bring an airshow to Santa Maria. “We saw about 17,000 people over the two days. It is going to turn into a signature event in Santa Maria.”
Kunkle says the event was not only fun for the whole community, it also gave back locally. “Over the weekend AirFest directly put back into the community over $450,000,” he said. “We were able to give back over $10,000 to local organizations that volunteered their time to help make the event successful.”
For the 2019 Central Coast Airfest, the headlining act will be United States Air Force F-16 Viper Demo Team.
“They are a high intensity single jet demonstration team,” Kunkle said. “It is loud and fast! We have a few new performers as well as bringing back some of the crowd favorites.”
Another new event at AirFest is a partnership with the Special Olympics that the community is invited to take part in.
“The Special Olympics will be having a fundraiser during the show,” Kunkle explained. “It is a Plane Pull. This is a simple as it sounds, put together a team and compete for how fast you can drag a plane 12 feet. All proceeds will go directly to Special Olympics.”
Along with the new acts, Kunkle said other improvements have been made to the event to make it more successful in its second year.
“We also recognized where we needed some help and made changes in the parking and entrance flows with expectations to make the entrance experience much better than the prior year,” Kunkle said. “This year we will also have a wide variety of food and beverages as well as souvenirs.”
Kunkle says he expects this year’s AirFest to soar to new heights, and is excited to be able to provide an event in the community that so many can enjoy.
The 2019 Central Coast AirFest will take place October 12th and 13th at the Santa Maria Airport. Pre-sale tickets are on sale now at www.centralcoastairfest.com. The prices will increase as the event gets closer, so it is highly recommended to get your tickets a soon as possible.
