    Summer Reading Success at City of Santa Maria Public Library
    The Santa Maria Public Library’s 2019 summer reading program, It’s Showtime at Your Library, was a rousing success thanks to the kind support of staff, hard work from participants, and generous contributions from local business sponsors. 
    The summer reading program was available at the main library and all branch libraries, with the goal of engaging all ages in learning and fun.  For kids and teens, this means avoiding the “summer slide” where academic progress is lost over the summer while school is not in session. Of 886 children and teens participating, kids read nearly 450,000 minutes, and teens read 518 books.  
    The 113 participants in the adult portion of the program made over 400 library visits during the eight-week program, and read over 200 books.  Additionally, all ages had the opportunity to participate in free programming all summer long.
    The Library wishes to acknowledge the support of local business partners this year.  The donation of incentive prizes motivated readers throughout the program to achieve reading goals. Business partners for 2019 were:

    The Santa Maria Public Library is located at 421 South McClelland Street. The Library’s hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays.  The Library is closed on Sundays.
