    Surface Seal Concrete Improvement Project

Drivers are advised that temporary, short delays will occur on various Santa Maria streets during the City’s Surface Seal Concrete Improvement Project, beginning Monday, August 12th and continuing through December.

The most notable streets affected include Banyon Way, Ocotillo Avenue, Marlberry Drive, Lorencita Drive, and other streets in the vicinity of the Santa Maria Country Club.

The work includes the removal and replacement of some existing street trees, tree root trimming, removal and installation of new curb and gutter, sidewalk, spandrels, and installation of new Americans with Disability Act (ADA)-compliant curb ramps.  The City is contracting with JJ Fisher Construction, Inc. to perform the $700,000 project. This involves the installation of approximately 15,000 square feet of sidewalk, 12,000 square feet of spandrel, 2,000 feet of curb and gutter, and 13,000 square feet of ADA curb ramps.

Construction will move quickly from street to street.  Parking is not allowed in active construction areas.  The contractor will post construction notices along streets with the dates and times when parking is prohibited.

The roads are open to traffic, but pedestrians will encounter detours and temporary sidewalk closures during construction. City staff requests that drivers obey all temporary construction signs and reduce driving speeds in construction areas.  The driving public may experience delays during construction.  Staff recommends drivers use alternate routes whenever possible to avoid delays and minimize inconveniences.

Questions may be directed to the Department of Public Works, Engineering Division at (805) 925-0951 extension 2225.
