    NEWS RELEASE

Time running out to be counted in the 2020 Census

The deadline to be counted in the 2020 Census is just weeks away on September 30th and its importance to Santa Maria cannot be overstated.

Santa Marians are encouraged to respond online, by phone, by mail, and if a census taker comes to their home, please cooperate.

Respond to the U.S. Census online at www.my2020census.gov or by phone 844-330-2020 (English) or 844-468-2020 (Spanish).

Santa Maria’s self-response census rate as of August 31st was 65.1 percent. For comparison, Santa Maria’s final response rate in the 2010 Census was 68.4 percent.

Census results shape the future of communities for the next 10 years. Census data informs how billions of dollars in Federal funds are distributed for health clinics, school lunch programs, disaster recovery initiatives, and other critical programs and services.

The City Manager’s Office continues its two-year effort to encourage Santa Marians to participate in the 2020 Census, with messaging in English, Spanish, and Mixteco.

Questions may be directed to the City Manager’s Office (805) 925-0951 extension 2372.
