Transit Service Changes Approved for January 2022 Go into Effect

A reminder to Santa Maria Regional Transit riders (formerly known as SMAT) that important service changes go into effect on Sunday, January 2, 2022.

SMRT route and schedule changes include improved connections and more direct service to popular destinations. Routes have been retimed to facilitate transfers and improve reliability, and most will operate on a 45-minute frequency.

“We’re excited about these changes,” Transit Services Manager Gamaliel Anguiano said. “This offers more service where it is needed, shortens the length of some routes, and provides improved access to the high schools.”

Digital bus passes are now available via the SMRTpay app. All materials will be rebranded under the Santa Maria Regional Transit (SMRT) banner.

Riders are encouraged to visit the Santa Maria Regional Transit Facebook page, RideSMRT.org website, or download the Tripshot app, for digital copies of routes and schedule changes. Transit service will be free from Sunday, January 2nd through Friday, January 7th to help riders adjust to the new changes.
