Utilities Department Celebrating America Recycles Day “Weekend”

On Friday, November 15th, in celebration of America Recycles Day, patrons at the Santa Maria Regional Landfill will receive recycled-material promotional items when they arrive at the Scalehouse.

Then, on Saturday, November 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the City of Santa Maria Utilities Department will hold a free Recycle Bin Distribution Event to promote household recycling. The event will be held at the Recycling Park at the Santa Maria Regional Landfill, 2065 East Main Street. To ensure safe traffic flow on-site, access to the distribution booth will only be possible after entering the Landfill site via the Scalehouse.

On Saturday, residents are encouraged to take advantage of the Recycling Park (dropping off any recyclable materials) before stopping at the department’s distribution booth to pick up the popular 18-gallon “in-house” container (two per household, while supplies last). The container is ideal for recycling paper, magazines, cans, glass, and cardboard and fits nicely in a pantry or garage due to its convenient size.

Questions may be directed to the Utilities Department at (805) 925-0951 extension 7270.
