    2021 Summer Reading Program: Reading Colors Your World

    The City of Santa Maria Public Library is excited to offer the 2021 Summer Reading Program: Reading Colors Your World, running now through July 31.  There is a special reading program for every age level from toddlers to adults. Each program offers activities and challenges as well as prizes for reading, based on age level. Drawings for additional prizes will occur at the end of the summer.

    Prizes for kids and teens include a free book, summer swag, and an entry into a grand drawing at the end of the summer for an Amazon gift card or Kindle tablet.  Adult prizes include a free book, and an entry into a grand prize drawing.     Participants may sign up at any Santa Maria Public Library location.  Adults may sign up at the second floor Information Desk at the Main Library, while families, children, and teens may sign up on the first floor in Youth Services.  At branch locations in Orcutt, Cuyama, Guadalupe or Los Alamos, all participants may sign up at the service desk.     National research from Dominican University found that students who participate in public library reading programs scored higher on reading achievement tests at the beginning of the next school than those that did not participate.

    The Santa Maria Public Library’s main Library, branch Libraries and Bookmobile are open for service in accordance with the local health emergency declared by the County.  Passport services are available by appointment at the main Library. The Library also offers 24/7 digital resources including downloadable eBooks, movies, magazines, and audiobooks. Online databases and programs, email reference service, veterans’ resources, updates about the Library’s operations, hours, and more are available online at www.cityofsantamaria.org/library. Patrons may also apply for a free Library card online.
