Salud Carbajal Recognized as an Advocate for People with Disabilities

Congressman Salud Carbajal is one of seven members of Congress to receive the first-ever SourceAmerica® Certificate of Appreciation for helping people with disabilities through policy and advocacy efforts.

This award recognizes individuals who have provided outstanding service to SourceAmerica® and its network of approximately 700 nonprofit agencies in advocacy activities. Congressman Carbajal was presented virtually with the award for his work supporting people with disabilities and nonprofits like VTC Enterprises.

“Congressman Salud Carbajal has introduced language to amend the National Defense Authorization Act to include a goal that 1.5% of all Department of Defense spending be awarded to the AbilityOne® Program as a member of the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee. We are grateful for his support to increase employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities that would result from the creation of such a goal,” said Jason Telander, CEO of VTC Enterprises.

The inaugural honorees were recognized during the 2021 Virtual Grassroots Advocacy conference.

“We can’t express enough gratitude for the people who go out of their way to champion initiatives that advance employment opportunities for people with disabilities,” said Richard Belden, Interim President and CEO of SourceAmerica®. “We chose to give out the inaugural awards to members of Congress like Congressman Carbajal because their efforts affect people with disabilities in their communities and across the nation. These members have seen first-hand the essential services provided by people with disabilities to keep the government operational during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
