    Fire Damages Park Restroom

A fire heavily damaged the restroom building at Armstrong Park, 1000 East Chapel Street, near downtown. The City closed the structure to the public.

The fire was reported about 1:55 a.m. Monday, April 29th. The wooden structure sustained extensive damage. The City and a contractor are evaluating estimates for repairs.

The Santa Maria Fire Department is continuing to investigate the blaze. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Fire Department at (805) 925-0951 extension 2255.

The park’s playground structure was destroyed after vandals set fire to the equipment around 1 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2017. The park re-opened about a year later. The replacement equipment was custom-built, with its cost covered by community donations and by Federal Community Development Block Grant funds.
