    High-Contact Sports in City Parks

Beginning Monday, June 7th the City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department will allow recreational and competitive outdoor high-contact sports to resume in City parks. Acceptable forms of sports include basketball, soccer, football, and rugby, among others. High-contact sports have been restricted at City parks and fields since June 2020 due to public health orders during the pandemic.

City fields, including Crossroads Basin, will be available for reservations for the first time in over a year. Outdoor basketball hoops are also back in place across City parks.

Organizations interested in reserving City fields must submit a copy of their liability insurance and a COVID-19 plan to the Recreation and Parks Department. Reservation requests will not be accepted without a copy of the organization’s liability insurance and a COVID-19 safety plan. Santa Barbara County and local public health guidelines will be enforced, and reservation fees will be charged.

Questions may be directed to the Recreation and Parks Department, (805) 925-0951 extension 2260.
