New Playground Structure Coming to Rodenberger Park

The City of Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department is installing a new playground structure at Rodenberger Park, 2725 Santa Barbara Drive. The existing playground will be fenced off starting Monday, May 17th and construction is expected to be completed by the middle of August.

The new playground is vibrant and includes a variety of slides and a swing set for children ages 5 to 12 years of age to enjoy. A reservable field and fitness course are also available for family fun and exercise.

The park is named after Ronald “Rod” J. Rodenberger, who faithfully served on numerous volunteer boards and commissions for the betterment of the community. He  served as a Recreation and Parks Commissioner for more than 20 years; a founding member and President of the People for Leisure And Youth, Inc.; President of the Tri-Counties Judge/Marshals Association; State Director for the Marshals Association of California; served on the Law Enforcement Advisory Board for Allan Hancock College; Vice President of the Southside Little League; and President of the Santa Maria Indian Baseball Team Board.  Rod was also the 2005 recipient of the prestigious Jeffersonian Award, which is given to those individuals who embody and exemplify the unique and distinct ideals of true citizenship and public service to their community.
