    NEWS RELEASE
    June 28, 2021
    North Blosser Road Improvement Project

    Drivers are advised that construction has begun on a project on North Blosser Road from Taylor Street to Atlantic Place.  Temporary and short delays will occur on North Blosser and intersecting streets beginning this week and continuing into September.

    The City of Santa Maria is now building this safety improvement project along North Blosser designed to slow vehicles, provide better pedestrian access, and add protected bike lanes, all the while maintaining traffic flow on the roadway.

    What is changing?

    The addition of a center, landscaped median reducing the roadway from two lanes to one lane in both directions, north and south;
    The addition of clearly delineated and separated bike lanes;
    Upgrade of corner curb ramps along corridor to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards;
    Installation of a high visibility crosswalk on Atlantic Place for pedestrians utilizing the levee trail.

    The City is contracting with G. Sosa Construction of Santa Maria to perform this $786,000 project.  This project is funded by a Cycle 7 Highway Safety Improvement Program Grant and by Local Surface Transportation Program funds.

    The driving public may experience delays during construction.  It is recommended to use alternate routes whenever possible to avoid delays and minimize the inconveniences to motorists and residents.

    City staff strongly recommends that drivers obey all temporary construction signs and reduce driving speeds in construction areas.
