Upcoming Chamber Events Educate, Recognize and Give Back to Local Community
Year after year the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce presents an amazing calendar of events and forums to educate and facilitate networking opportunities for the members of our business community.
2018 is no different. This year we are focused on key elements that will help our businesses be proactive, engaged to the community and continue to thrive in our growing city. This includes recognizing the industries that give back to our community as a whole.
As Strawberry season comes upon us some of the top companies in the Central Coast strawberry industry will gather on Wednesday April 4th, 2018 for the Annual Strawberry Recognition Dinner at the Santa Maria Fairpark. The event, sponsored by the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce, is a tribute to the people who grow and harvest one of Santa Maria's most important commodities, The Strawberry!
Another key element we focus on is education. Industries such as the Strawberry industry could not continue to grow without focusing on sustainability. As a community, we want to see our children grow into strong leaders to develop and nurture our community further. Education and the importance of pursuing post-secondary education are vital to the development of our children and the community. However, there are many barriers that limit access to very much needed resources. The Santa Maria Valley Industry Education Council and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce partner every year to host the Annual Business Appreciation luncheon. This year it will be held at the Elks Lodge on Thursday April 12th, 2018.
The event reflects the support given to our schools by so many local businesses who give so much to encourage student achievement and success. All these companies, large and small, inspire others to contribute towards a better community for everyone. The luncheon also includes the distribution of computers through the Computer Connections program, a joint venture between the Industry Education Council and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce. So far, almost 150 families have received new computer packages through the program for needy children.
Partnerships like this would not be possible without the opportunity to network and make connections within the business community. The chamber also hosts monthly events where you can network, connect, and learn with like –minded people that have a common goal to make our city great. The chamber coordinates monthly chamber mixers that are hosted by chamber members every 3rd Thursday of the month. We also host a weekly networking breakfast meeting that provides a great opportunity for Chamber members to meet and connect with fellow Chamber members and enjoy a casual and informal setting where you can come and invest time in networking, marketing your business products and/or services, and increase your referral base! The program includes 60-second self-introductions for all members, one 12-minute showcase, leads & testimonials and general Chamber announcements.
Periodically we also include educational forums and seminars that provide tools that businesses can use to help them navigate through areas of their business that they may not be too familiar with. Knowledge is power and we believe that any business can thrive in our community with the right resources available. In partnership with the City of Santa Maria and the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration we are excited to present The Santa Maria Small Business Tax Seminar. Experts will discuss various topics that include: avoiding common sales and use tax problems, the difference between an employee and an independent contractor, and forms of ownership. This event will be held on Wednesday, March 21st, 2018 at Shepard Hall inside Santa Maria Public Library.
These are just a few of the many exciting events and education forums the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce has planned for 2018. For more information about upcoming events and to register please visit our website at Santamaria.com. Cheers to a prosperous 2018!
